The production of fine fabrics starts with raw material, which in most if not all cases is sourced in New Zealand, Australia and Patagonia for wool, South Africa for Mohair, and Northern China and Mongolia for cashmere. These are carefully sourced by Cifonelli's three main fabric providers, Loro Piana, Vitale Barberis Canonico, and Holland & Sherry, who all believe in envrionmental responsibility. The natural materials are then sorted, dyed, and spun into yarns, before being woven and finished with care.
Most of the fabrics used by Cifonelli come from three of the finest mills in the world: Holland & Sherry in Chile, and Loro Piana and Vitale Barberis Canonico, both in Northern Italy. Vitale Barberis Canonico has made clear sustainability progress ranging from reusing dying contents and chemicals to reducing water consumption and purchasing 100% of their electricity from certified renewable sources. Holland & Sherry generates its own energy through renewable clean burn resources. The water they use conforms to strict regulations so that it can be used as drinking water again. All fiber and yarn waste is reused or donated.
Handmade in Cifonelli's atelier in Naples, Italy. Button holes are also finished by hand. These are also known as Milanese buttons. The Cifonelli signature construction is their "Cigarette" shoulder and a high armhole to allow for mobility and an elegant silhouette.
