Loro Piana, a historic wool factory in the province of Biella, is renowned worldwide for the great attention it gives to finding the best and rarest raw materials from which it makes its finest and most noble weaves like cashmere, baby cashmere, vicuña and the finest wool of umatched quality. Loro Piana recognized the value of Merino sheep' dark wool and decided to restore this fiber. Pecora Nera® is the result of the hard work of a New Zealand breeder determined to restore the dignity and importance of the Black Merino sheep. The original characteristics of the ewe, such as the brightness, the strength and the distinctive colorings of the wool that vary from light brown to dark black, can finally be seen again. The Pecora Nera® fabrics are extremely light, comfortable and resistant. This rare and superlative fiber can be used to produce sophisticated garments in a dynamic range of dark tones, which also have unique insulating properties.
To manufacture this elegant jacket, Pini Parma chose expert Italian tailors who still use traditional hand crafted techniques. It is a half canvas jacket, completely made in Italy by renowned tailors who produce men suits for the world's most prestigious fashion houses. The canvas is applied from the shoulder by the underside of the jacket to the middle of the chest, and for this reason, it is called "half canvas". This type of construction provides structure, elegant fluidity, comfort, and breathability. The fabric gives the jacket greater durability compared to a fused construction jacket and makes it comfortable and breathable.
